Pale Ale Tasting

This series of pale ale tastings will include Knight's Head Pale Ale brewed by Round Table Brewing of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. I picked up an assorted case including a 1/2 case of the pale plus a six-pak of both the lager and the light. My purchase was made for the astoundingly low price of $9.99 for twenty four 12 oz. bottles at West Chester, Pa. just across from the Delaware border. Onward and into sipping mode:
Geary's Pale Ale: Color-Orange golden Nose-Fresh First taste-Full taste Observations-Flavor is lasting Fizziness-Frothy head; many active bubbles Where Brewed? Geary Brewing of Portland, Me. Cost-$1.41 Container-12 oz. bottle Saying-Made in Maine Aftertaste-Some is there Rating-7

Canadian Brewed Foster

It's Labor Day at the beachclub and the weekend has been dynamic and beautiful. Tomorrow I will head to Newark, Delaware to bring the rest of Bryce's stuff to her as she begins her sophomore year at UDel. Our beer tasting today will be a Canadian brewed Australian product Foster found today in a 25.4 oz. can. On we go:
Foster (Canadian Brewed): Color-Golden yellow Nose-Of grain First taste-Strong; drinkable Observations-Taste alright Where Brewed? Toronto, Canada Fizziness-Foamy head; small active bubbles Type-Lager Aftertaste-Not noticable Rating-7
Final Thought-Unfortunately cannot remember the original brew from down under?

Very "CHEAP" Beers

With Audrey getting a perm in Bay Ridge, I choose not to go to the beach. I will compare 2 cheap beers by all standards. Generally the only way to pay 50 cents per 12 ounces is to get a 24 oz. can of Coors/Coors Lite or one of the ice beers. Here we have 2 of that variety; I did have to buy a case/6-pak respectively to get the excellent price. On we go:
Northern (Reserve) Golden Beer: Color-Golden yellow Nose-Non descript First taste-Strong first burst Observations-Not much taste lingers Fizziness-Rim head; active bubbles Where Brewed? Cold spring, MN. Cost-21 cents per 12 ozs. Style(Type)-Lager Aftertaste-Not memorable Rating-4
Old Harbour Pilsner Lager: Color-Light yellow Nose-Slight First Taste-Full mouth Observations-Not lasting Fizziness-Frothy head; many active bubbles Where Brewed? Utica, NY Cost-50 cents per 12 ozs. Style(Type) Pilsner Lager Aftertaste-Metallic Rating-4.5
Final Thought-If you're looking for a cheap drunken binge, these are both excellent choices. They are not to be sipped and savored.

Northern Golden Lager (amazing cheap price)!!!

Here I am tasting a lager beer that I purchased a case of earlier today at a Thrifty Beverage in Sheepshead Bay. I am dedicating it to Audrey's Aunt Rosie who died yesterday only 75 years old. Let me begin:
Northern (Reserve) Golden Lager: Color-Golden yellow Nose-Not able to discern any scent First taste-Strong; then fast fade Observations-Drinkable if you don't expect much Fizziness-Rim head(then it goes away too); few active bubbles Where Brewed? Cold Spring, Minnesota Cost-21 cents per 12oz. can($4.99 a case) Aftertaste-Not pleasant Rating-4
Final Thought-Not high on my list of beers; yet it still is worth what I paid for it. Plan on trying a tasting soon against a 50 center beer (a pilsner from Utica, NY) Audrey can also use the Northern Lager as a base which she can add juices to forming a malt beverage.

Heineken Mini-Keg

Silver Gull Beach Club in the Rockaways again provides the backdrop for another taste and rate event. Our next store cabana neighbor Russ Marcus provided the suds and I did my evaluation. Heineken Mini-Keg: Color-Golden yellow Nose-Clean; fresh First taste- Some taste; quick fade Observations-Goes down easy; Not as good as its' full keg sized brethren(sample could have also been better refrigerated) Fizziness-Frothy head; slight carbonation Aftertaste-Pleasant but doesn't last long Rating-6
Final thought-I again encounter the on tap vs. bottle/can concept. Generally draft type beers are more highly rated.
